MIXED VOLLEYBALL LEAGUE RULES 2017/2018
All O.V.A. Volleyball rules will apply with the following exceptions.

- Each team must have four (4) players on the court in order to play a match. If there are not four players within 10 minutes of scheduled game time, the first game is forfeited. Points awarded to the team who is present to play. If there are not four players for the second game, ten minutes after the scheduled starting time, the match is defaulted. If both teams are late, it is considered a forfeit/default for each team. If there are 4 players present at game time, the team must play.
- Teams must have at least two women on the court at all times. If only two women are available, there is a maximum of three men on the court.
- Captains must inform Emma Dagenais if they will not have enough team members to play. The points will be awarded to the other team.
- JUDGEMENT CALLS BY THE REFEREE ARE FINAL! If there is an issue it is encouraged to please send your team captain to approach the referee.
- Men are only permitted to spike behind the attack line. Men may jump and tip from in front of the attack line however may not block a female player.
- No opposing player is allowed to block or spike a serve.
- The ball may contact any part of the body as long as it is not a lift.
- Spares may play only if the team has fewer than six regular players. Spares must be on the team’s own roster if needed for the year-end tournament. Referees will have access to rosters and will settle any disputes on site.
- Unlimited number of spares can be used and spares may be borrowed from another team for regular season play. A spare can be on more than one roster. A regular player cannot be used as a spare for another team.
- Contact with the net is a fault only when the action of playing the ball is in the front zone. (Incidental net contact is a fault only when the player is in the act of playing the ball).
- All matches will be rally point. The best three out of five sets will win the match. The first three sets will run to 25 points with a CAP of 27 points. The third set is played to a CAP of 15 points.
- Matches will consist of 3 out of 5 games. One point is awarded for each game won.
- A player must attend at least 8 regular season matches to qualify as a team member and be eligible for tournament play OR the player must be listed as a spare on the roster submitted at the beginning of the season and have participated in at least 3 regular season matches to qualify as a team member and be eligible to play in the year end tournament. In January, teams will be permitted to add spares to their list so that players have an opportunity to participate in league play prior to the year-end tournament.
- Players must serve from any point behind the back line within the court sidelines. A serve may be received by a hand pass (does not have to be a bump). The server only has one toss.
Reminders
- For the safety of yourself and your team members, it is strongly encouraged that all jewelry is removed and left at home.
- Proper and safe attire is to be worn during games. This includes shirts, shorts/pants, and clean indoor running shoes. Not wearing proper running shoes is not acceptable, and any players without running shoes will be considered illegal players. Please ensure your team has shoes without black marking soles.
- The losing team playing the last match will take down the equipment. All equipment must be put back in its original place.
- All winter boots and dirty shoes are to be removed at the door, BEFORE entering the gyms. Please keep dressing rooms, gyms and halls clean. Our cooperation is important for future use of these gyms.
- Please remember there is no food or drink allowed in the gym except for water bottles. Please have a look around the benches when leaving and place garbage in the bins provided.
